TT Jagannathan, Chairman Emeritus of the TTK Group and the founder of the iconic Prestige brand, passed away in Bengaluru on Thursday, October 9. A visionary entrepreneur, he was among the pioneers who reshaped India’s kitchenware industry through constant innovation and determination.
In its exchange filing, kitchen appliance company TTK Prestige said, “We regret to inform you that the Company was intimated today about the sudden demise of Mr. T T Jagannathan – Chairman Emeritus, belonging to the Promoter and Promoter Group of the Company, on October 09, 2025.”
Jagannathan’s most celebrated contribution was revolutionising the pressure cooker market with the introduction of the gasket release system, a breakthrough safety feature that transformed consumer confidence and cemented Prestige’s place in Indian homes.
Possessing a PhD in Operations Research from Cornell University and a medal from IIT Madras, he blended academic excellence with business acumen. Over five decades on the TTK Prestige board, he steered the company from a period of crisis to becoming a debt-free, billion-dollar enterprise.
In his book ‘Disrupt and Conquer: How TTK Prestige Became a Billion Dollar Company‘, Jagannathan vividly recounted the company’s struggles in the 1990s, when overexpansion and mounting losses had pushed it close to collapse. He described how TTK Prestige undertook a major turnaround, “focusing on its core kitchen appliances business, tightening costs, and innovating with new products like the safety pressure cooker”.
The revival eventually transformed the company into one of India’s most trusted consumer brands.
Industry peers and colleagues remembered Jagannathan not only as a visionary business leader but also as a passionate cook who deeply understood the evolving needs of Indian households, an empathy that shaped much of his innovation at Prestige.
